On the flip side of writing, there’s editing. I typically spend a great deal more time editing the work of others than I do writing my own.
Magazines
I edited WIPs: Works (of Fiction) in Progress, one of the few literary journals that published excerpts from novels still in the works. I also interviewed each writer about their published excerpt and the greater book project from which it came.
I also edited fiction for the award-winning online literary magazine LITnIMAGE, which I co-founded nearly five years ago. With over 18 quarterly issues, it included exceptional work by many great writers and artists.
My first editing experience was at Fiction International, where I served as assistant editor during my MFA days at SDSU, At FI I learned to respect the submissions pile, and began to understand the editorial process and the necessary steps needed to deliver an elite-level literary publication.
Book Anthology
With John Ottey I edited EXPERIENCED: Rock Music Tales of Fact & Fiction. Published by Vagabondage Press in 2011, the book is a compelling collection of rock n’ roll tales by outstanding writers such as James Greer, Fred de Vries, Jim DeRogatis, and many others. It’s the perfect read for rock music fans who appreciate fine literature.
